I have been working at Clear Creek (summer camp) and actually picked up an extra week. I will be going again on Monday. The camp is a lot different from what I expected. About 100 kids go each week. I work as a camp instructor and teach the kids about outdoor stuff. Imagine that!
On the bus ride up Spanish Fork Canyon, we make some stops and teach the kids about some history as well as collect rock samples. Throughout the week the kids make traps to catch Pot Guts, collect and learn about various flowers, learn to name various trees and plants, go on hikes, participate in a ropes course, learn about qualities of streams, and visit historical museums and old mining towns. It is a rather exhausting week for everyone involved. The fun part is pretending to know all this stuff while I teach! I think I make up half the stuff as the week goes on.

Sleeping in the cabin with 25 girls is also quite interesting. I read the girls a story each night before turning out the lights and they love that! I have had to deal with a few girls feeling homesick and one throwing up in the middle of the night. You know how much love to wake up to that! Oh, and one night, I woke up to this big thud on the floor and jumped out of bed wondering what happened. Well, after stumbling through the cabin, everyone seemed to be ok. Well, come morning, one girl tells me that she fell off the top bunk in the middle of the night and didn't even notice until I woke them up and she realized she was on the floor. I don't know how she slept through that!
Last weekend I had one of the best nights. Paul had been wanting to plan a date for me since I had been gone camping so much. He made an awesome dinner for me and then took me to see a Beauty and the Beast Musical (my favorite Disney movie). I had mentioned a long time ago that I wanted to go but completely forgot about it. I was surprised that Paul remembered. It had been pouring rain earlier that night and since it was an outdoor theater, I was afraid that it would be canceled. Luckily, the rain stopped just in time for the show to begin. It was perfect! We were freezing by the time the musical ended so we topped the night off with some Hot Chocolate. I had so much fun that night!
I have been working on getting my classroom ready since I will be gone vacationing from mid-July to mid-August. School starts on the 20th of August so I don't want to be rushed when I get back from vacation. I have about 20 days before I head out to Pittsburgh. I am excited to step out of my southwestern bubble.
Hi Lori! how can someone not realize they fell off the bed?! Sounds like your summer is full of fun activities. Bet your an awesome camp leader and teacher.
