Unofficial Start to Summer

Now that the snow has melted and the weather has warmed up, the summer adventures have begun. I recently took a day off of work and went to Arches National Park in Moab, Utah with a group of friends. We left Thursday evening and arrived at the park only to find out that all the campsites were full. After driving around for awhile, we settled on staying at a cheap hotel. I was a little disappointed seeing how this was a camping trip, but I got the better end of the deal: 2 girls sleeping soundly on the bed and 4 guys "roughing" it on the floor.

We woke up early the next morning to a phone call from a couple that was meeting us later that day and bringing up the rest of our food (besides the cereal and smores we had). The phone call put a damper on our trip: they had hit a deer and were being towed back to Provo. Luckily, they were ok but the car suffered $5,000 in damage and left us with only cereal and smores.

Despite the bad news, we found a campsite and prepared for hiking. On the way to the park, we stopped at the store and bought some bread so now in addition to the cereal and smores, we could eat PB&J for lunch and dinner. Yum!

We hiked the Double O Arch that morning and then did a sunset hike to Delicate Arch. The weather was so beautiful! The second hike was a bit more strenuous since it was a lot of steep rocky hills. Let's just say that we were all pretty exhausted that night. We had a fire, roasted smores, and went to bed soon after.

The next morning we packed up and headed back home. We made it safely and avoided the deers wanting to commit suicide. I am excited for the summer adventures yet to come. I only need to survive the next three weeks of school! 15 days...
